REMARCO is a European project dedicated to tackling an urgent and hidden threat: World War munitions degrading on the sea bed. Funded by Interreg North Sea, it brings together maritime archaeologists, scientists, industry representatives and public authorities from across the North Sea region.
With such a wide ranging project, there was one big challenge: How to share data while maintaining security and confidentiality.
Periplus Group was given the task of creating flexible access management and multiple sharing options within GRIDit. This was led by maritime archaeologist Rens Cassee in cooperation with the GRIDit team of software developers.
The most innovative new feature developed for REMARCO is 'outline sharing'. Users can choose to allow others within their project to view the outline of a layer, alongside the layer name and the contact details for the data owner. Others within the project can see that data exists and contact the data owner to request access. The owner of the data decides whether to grant access or not.
We are proud to have created new sharing options for such an important - yet large and disparate - project. The new sharing options will help REMARCO participants across Europe cooperate effectively.
The new sharing features are available to all GRIDit users. Decentralised organisations that need to decide data sharing on a case-by-case basis will value the control that this feature gives over data sharing.
