Shipwreck Maasvlakte II, The Netherlands - 2007

In preparation of the construction of Maasvlakte II, Port of Rotterdam's expansion, an archaeological deskstudy was undertaken. An archaeological field evaluation on water took place with the use of geophysical equipment, which was followed by dive inspections for a final field evaluation in march 2007.

Besides a few objects, as in anchors and steel cables, on one location the remains of a 19th century wooden ship was found. To find out if this wreck is valuable enough to preserve, another investigation will take place in the future to determine the quality, dimensions, date etc of this wreck. And based on that, an advice will be given to the authorities.

Periplus Archeomare BV executed these investigations in cooperation with Port of Roterdam, Vestigia and RAAP Advies.
