Offshore Windfarms RWE - 2008
RWE is planning to built multiple offshore wind farms in the North Sea. Wind farms with a capacity of 2000 megawatts. Never before, parks of this size are built offshore. This initiative can be an important contribution to the plans of the Dutch government to generate a total of 6000 megawatts from sea-based wind farms. Up until now, Holland is generating a capacity of only 108 megawatts.
RWE wants to develop these wind farms on two different locations. The first one, named ‘Tromp’, is planned on a location 64 km from the coast off IJmuiden in a waterdepth of 26m and a total capacity of 1150 megawatts. This field won't be visible from shore. The second farm, named ‘De Ruyter’ will be built at a similar distance from shore and similar depth off the coast of Groningen.
It requires a lot to accomplish the offshore windenergy ambitions of the Dutch government. Periplus Consultancy advises RWE in the startup phase of this large project. Next to proposals for possible cable routes and performing a archaeological deskstudy for the site and route, Periplus Consultancy provides RWE with GIS specialists to chart everything from parklayout to North Sea infrastructure.
