Dredging Suez Canal, Egypt - 2008

ImageDredging company Dutch Dredging recently started preparations for a project located in Port Said, Egypt. At the moment there are three channels to and from the Suez Canal. Two are in use and the third is mainly used by a containerterminal and includes a turning circle. The Port Authorities recently decided to make this third channel a new entrance channel also. This means dredging it to a certain level, so that all passing ships have enough keel clearance. In preparation of this project, a bathymetric survey needed to be carried out of this channel, the turning circle and the defined approach channel and dumpareas offshore Port Said.

Periplus Consultancy provided a hydrographic surveyor to assist with the mobilisation and calibration of equipment onboard the surveyvessel, installation of tide gauges and basestation and checks on existing benchmarks provided by the client. Onboard PDS2000 software is used to collect the data. At present the insurvey has been completed and charted. The dredging works will start in the coming weeks.
