London Array is arguably the most widely known UK offshore wind farm. Its sheer scale and proximity to Greater London mean it’s often referred to by politicians and in the press. At 1,000MW, the project is currently the largest consented wind farm in the world.

Power generated by the wind farm will be transported to the shore through four cables. Dutch based firm Visser & Smit Hanab, specialized in above and underground pipeline and cable infrastructure, is responsible for the commissioning of these cables.
One of the cables lands ashore at the Cleve Hill substation, near Graveney (SE England). For the burial of this cable in the near shore area, a trench was dredged by Acta Marine, another Dutch maritime specialist. The cable was buried in this trench. Periplus staff coordinated and monitored the burial works o/b Acta Marine’s vessel Coastal Explorer.
Periplus has built up a track record with cable and pipe line (re)burial projects. Specialist services and expertise were delivered before on similar projects in the Wadden Sea and Eems harbour in the Netherlands and on the BritNed Interconnector project between UK and The Netherlands.
Reburial Amelandleiding 2011

During the summer of 2011, Periplus provided assistance to the reburial project of the Amelandleiding in The Wadden Sea. The Amelandleiding is a gas pipeline exploited by Gasunie. During one of the frequently performed monitoring surveys it appeared that the pipeline was not buried everywhere at its target depth anymore. Such is caused by the naturally dynamic nature of the area. Gasunie subsequently contracted Acta Marine with its MS Coastal Explorer to rebury the pipeline. Periplus worked on board from July till October on behalf of Gasunie in order to provide the relevant Hydrographical expertise.

Investigation River IJssel
Periplus Archeomare B.V performed an archaeological field investigation in the river IJssel between Zwolle and the Ketelmeer, using high resolution side scan sonar data. The investigation was performed for DHV Coastal and River Development and was deemed necessary because scheduled deepening of the riverbed could potentially result in loosing archaeological valuables. During the investigation a number of objects were located that would require a closer research by dive inspection. This underwater investigation will be performed in April 2011 in cooperation with ADC ArcheoProjecten and Subcom (Diving Services).
Monitoring of mussel farming activities
Since 2010, Periplus Archeomare B.V. is conducting an annual monitoring project in the Dutch Wadden Sea to investigate the influence of mussel farming (mosselkweek) activities on the underwater environment. There are a number of historically important ship wrecks in the area that could be damaged by a potential changing erosion and sedimentation pattern. During the first investigation all known ship wrecks as well as possible remnants of previously undiscovered wrecks were located and mapped. The project will run till 2012.

Archaeological research in the River Vecht
Between 2007 and 2011, Periplus Archeomare B.V., in conjunction with ADC ArcheoProjecten and Subcom, performed several Archaeological research projects in the river Vecht between Muiden and Utrecht for Waternet. During those projects several objects with considerable cultural heritage value, like ancient ship wrecks and water lock system dating back to the 15th Century, were found and further investigated. In April 2011, remediation works of the river Vecht will commence for which Periplus Archeomare B.V. will provide advisory and consultancy services in order to warrant preservation of archaeological valuables for the future.
