Successful season 2011 for Periplus catamaran sailing team

The Periplus sponsored catamaran team of Martin Valk and Arjan Sijp had a very successful season. The young team participated in five races and managed to finish first overall in three of them!
click to enlargeIn the opening race of the season, the NK Nacra open class, the team managed to win all seven heats in favourite wind conditions. In the Round Texel Race in June, adverse weather made the team decide to stay on shore. Considering that from the 400 boats in the race, 250 were grounded, damaged or capsized, this appeared to be a wise decision and the new Catamaran Eagle 20 was therewith kept in splendid condition for the races to follow.
click to enlargeThe first regatta with the new boat (Baptized: Periplus-1) ended in a deserving 19th place. The best performances however were saved for the last two regattas of the season: During both the Bergen Jazz & Sail Regatta and the Fastwell Race in Medemblik, the Periplus-1 finished in first place. Both races were true epics and were sailed against serious and often professional competition!
Periplus is proud to sponsor the ambitious team of Martin and Arjan and talks about sponsor arrangements for next season have started already. Currently we are considering taking part in the Archipelago Raid 2012. This regatta between Sweden and Finland is considered as one of the most challenging regattas in the world. We will keep you up to date!

click to enlargeSince June 2011, Periplus Group sponsors the talented catamaran sailing team of Martin Valk and Arjan van Sijp. Martin and Arjan are currently achieving great results in catamaran sailing. They finished first in the ‘Nacra Dutch Open 2011’ and were runners-up in the ‘Bergen Jazz and Sail Regatta 2010’.
The team recently purchased the F20 Eagle Carbon, a boat that should aid them in their pursuit to finish in high rankings in upcoming events. The next event that really matters is the Texel Sailing Week in which they will participate in the Dutch Open Championship (a three-day long regatta) and the Round Texel Race. The Round Texel Race is with more than 700 competing boats world’s largest catamaran regatta.
Catamaran sailing is an ambitious and competitive sport that requires excellent team work, race intelligence and tactical insight; all this in the harsh environment of the North Sea. It is here where we find the link to Periplus that considers the same North Sea as its field of play and that accomplishes its vision also by team work, tactical insight and technical intelligence.
Periplus considers this sponsoring initiative contributing to ‘building a future’, not only for the company as such but certainly for the sportive aspirations of this young and ambitious team.
