IMS
At Periplus we are committed to provide a safe and healthy work environment for all our employees and visitors in our office and at work locations. We proclaim and strive for a pro-active approach from all involved to achieve this. Our Integrated Management System (IMS) contains the procedures and tools to enable this and it defines how we deal with:
Risk Identification and Evaluation (RIE)
We identify and evaluate the health and safety risks arising during and from our work activities. Based upon defined risks we maintain a Plan of Action accompanied with a general action list, in order to eliminate or reduce these risks and to prevent accidents and occupational illnesses.
Law and Legislation
We will at all times adhere to applicable law and legislation regarding employment conditions and circumstances as well as other relevant rules and regulations. We maintain a procedure that:
- Enables us to identify applicable law and legislation and the way we have access to them.
- Enables us to check and warrant our compliance to the applicable law and legislation.
Incident Investigation and Reporting
We have a procedure in place that defines how we investigate and subsequently report incidents in case they occur. This procedure:
- Defines lines of responsibility and communication for the reporting and investigation of incidents.
- Helps us to define an evaluate (root) causes and therewith define corrective an preventive action
Employee involvement and empowerment
We will at all times consult our employees on matters affecting their health and safety. Moreover, all staff has several means to proactively participate in maintaining and establishing a safe and healthy working environment. Besides, all employees are empowered and encouraged to stop the work if they consider it unsafe.
Each employee is required to report unsafe conditions or near misses to its supervisor. No such report shall result in retaliation, penalty, or other disincentive against the employee. Similarly, management will take disciplinary action against an employee who willfully or repeatedly violates workplace safety rules.
Awareness and Training
We ensure that our employees are informed and made aware of this HSE policy and all matters that are directly related to it. We will also ensure that all employees are competent to fulfill their assigned tasks and prepared to deal with (unforeseen) circumstances. When necessary and applicable we will provide the appropriate training.
Management Review
Periplus’ management will at all times take a pro-active approach towards creating safe working environments for all employees. Recommendations to improve health and safety conditions will be reviewed and given thorough consideration. The management will at all times give priority to and provide the financial resources for the correction or prevention of unsafe or unhealthy conditions. The management will define, in consultation, corrective and preventive actions and commit itself to deadlines in order to safeguard the process of continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Ultimate responsibility for the coordination, implementation, and maintenance of health and safety related items in Periplus’ IMS lies with the undersigned but the day to day responsibilities for health and safety related issues are delegated to the IMS Coordinator. This policy will be reviewed and, if necessary, revised in the light of legislative or organizational changes and its implementation will be regularly monitored to ensure that the objectives are achieved.
